Objectives: TSWBAT · Identify different professions and characteristics needed to obtain them · Present information about a profession to the class
Activities: · Do now- Students will identify the professions they see in the pictures on the powerpoint, and discuss with a partner what those people do. · Students will work in pairs, and each pair will receive a profession. Students will write a paragraph to describe what that person does, where they work, who they work with, characteristics that that person should posses, etc. · Each pair will create a wordle(using wordle.net) with their paragraph. They will then use their wordle to guide them in presenting their profession to the class. · As the class listens to the presentations they will jot down any words they see in the wordle that are new to them. · Discussion of new words/ what they like or disliked about using wordle.net to help them present
Closure:
Students will respond to question posted on class wiki about which of the professions discussed today they would want in the future and why.
Assessment:
Rubric to grade presentations/ individual answers to wiki question
Explanation of lesson: I like the idea of using wordle.net, especially in a Spanish class. When the students present, I don’t want them to simply read off a page, I want their speech to be more natural, so wordle is a great tool that they can use to remind them of key words as they are speaking. It’s also very visually stimulating, and a unique way to present information. This can also address students’ artistic talents, and provide support for those students who are not as comfortable presenting in front of the class. The use of the class wiki is a good way for all students to give answers to a question at the same time. It is different than answering a question posted in a textbook, and allows students to use creativity since there is no correct answer. It will also allow me to assess for individual understanding of vocabulary.
